Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition associated with increased tenderness at specific sites (‘tender points’) on the body for at least 3 months. Pain is felt in many of the muscles, ligaments, tendons and bones of the body. Fibromyalgia affects approximately 3% of Canadians, with women developing the condition at least four times as often as men. Fibromyalgia is most often experienced by people over the age of 50.
